Rutgers Volleyball Adds Two to 2013 Roster
Cloyd, Trimble to join the Scarlet Knights next fall

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 12, 2012) – The Rutgers volleyball program added two student-athletes to the 2013 roster, head coach CJ Werneke announced Wednesday. Both Lauren Cloyd (Champaign, Ill.) and Cole Trimble (Orlando, Fla.) will join the squad next fall.

    Notes: Four-year varsity letterwinner at Centennial … selected First Team All-State as a senior … named 2012 All-Area Player of the Year and All-Area First Team … earned Big 12 Conference First Team accolades … named MVP at the Effingham Crossroads Tournament and was on the all-tournament teams at the Charger Invite and the Wilmington Invite … selected All-Area Special Mention and Big 12 All-Conference Honorable Mention as a junior and a sophomore … picked as Centennial High School Offensive Player of the Year as a junior … named to Charger Invite and Wilmington Invite All-Tournament teams in 2010 as a sophomore, as well as the best blocker at the Sports Performance National Junior Classic … lettered all four years in basketball … member of the National Honor Society and a three-year winner of the Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete Award and the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Scholastic Achievement Award.

    Werneke on Cloyd: “Lauren is a dominating middle that adds size and a physical presence to the program. She is a grinder with a blue-collar mindset that likes to work hard. She is looking forward to playing in the Big Ten when it comes and is not shying away. It’s nice to add a player with natural-born work ethic to the program.”

    Notes: Named to the All-Metro Conference Team in 2011 and 2012 … earned a spot on the 2012 Under Armour All-American Watch List … ranked the No. 7 player on the Bright House Sports Network’s Top 20 Volleyball Player Countdown … tallied 99 kills in her senior season … member of AAU National Championship winning squads in the 14, 15 and 17 Open divisions … competed in seven consecutive USAV National Championship Tournaments with the Orlando Volleyball Academy (OVA) … helped the team to a fifth place finish at the USAV National Championships in 2012, while also being named the Big South Champions (17-Open) and the Mideast JNQ Champions (17-Open) … earned a bronze medal with OVA in at the USAV National Championships in 2009 (14 Open) and 2011 (16 Open) … earned eight varsity letters to date between volleyball, track (long jump, triple jump and high jump), flag football and basketball … volunteers at three schools to help teach young kids … works as a part-time assistant coach for an OVA 12s team … founded the Lake Highland Prep Outdoor Volleyball Club … served on student council … selected as a safety ambassador to the Orange County Sheriff Resource Office … participated in student-athlete leadership training at Lake Highland Prep.

    Werneke on Trimble: “Cole is a multi-position athlete. I really like her flexibility to play different positions. She is dedicating this club season to playing as an outside hitter. She is a great teammate both on and off the court who understands that nothing is given and everything is earned. We’re excited to get her in the program.”
