Syracuse, N.Y. (October 3, 2012) – Despite a late score by junior forward Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.), the Rutgers men’s soccer team (5-4, 1-2) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Syracuse on Wednesday night.

SU (9-4, 2-1) scored two minutes into the first overtime period. For the second time in the match, Jordan Murrell knocked a corner into the box, allowing Lars Muller to head the ball into the back of the net for the game winner.

The Scarlet Knights knotted the score in the 75th minute off a set piece. Freshman midfielder Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.) served a pass to Eze in the box from 30 yards out. The junior forward headed the ball into the back of the net to send the game into overtime.

Syracuse got on the board first, as Murrell curved a corner into the box where Jordan Vale headed it in for the score in the 28th minute.

RU went on the attack midway through the second half, as freshman Olisa Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) and sophomore Max Moller (Tulsa, Okla.) each put shots on frame.

Senior goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) kept the Scarlet Knights in the match, making six saves in the effort.

Rutgers continues its three-game road swing with USF on Saturday, Oct. 6. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Corbett Soccer Stadium.
