PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 13, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s soccer team picked up more awards from last week’s American Athletic Conference Tournament victories. College Sports Madness named goalkeeper David Greczek (Fairfield, N.J.) the National Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore midfielder Mael Corboz (Green Brook, N.J.) was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Greczek, who was named to College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week on Monday, posted 15 saves in both the play-in game and quarterfinal victories over the weekend. The rookie Scarlet Knight made nine stops, including a save on a penalty kick, in the upset of top-seeded and No. 7 Louisville on Saturday night for his fifth shutout of the season.
On the year, Greczek has made 96 total saves, averaging 5.1 per game. He holds a 1.20 goals against average and .807 save percentage.
Corboz earned honors from TopDrawerSoccer after putting away the game-winning in Rutgers’ 1-0 AAC quarterfinal victory over top-seeded and seventh ranked Louisville.
To date, Corboz has registered 18 points from six goals and six assists.
The Rutgers men’s soccer team returns to action on Friday, Nov. 15 against USF in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
