PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 13, 2009) – Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, the Rutgers men’s soccer team (5-7-0, 3-4-0 BIG EAST) was unable to maintain the advantage as No. 15 Brown (7-0-4, 2-0-0 Ivy League) earned a 3-1 result on Tuesday night at Stevenson Field. The Scarlet Knights concluded their three-match road trip in seven days in Providence, R.I.

“We’re just too banged up in the middle of the park,” said head coach Bob Reasso. “Robbie [McLarney] and David [MacVane] just can’t last a match together. The last game [DePaul] was the first time they were actually able to get through 90 minutes together. We started to lose the midfield in the second half.

“The score line may have flattered them a bit even though they were the better team on the night but our kids played well. It’s our third game in seven days on the road and it’s tough but our kids played hard. Brown is a very good team, they went away deserved winners but I still thought our guys put on a good performance.”

The Scarlet Knights posted the first score in the 18th minute on a throw-in opportunity for sophomore Bryant Knibbs (Pine Bush, N.Y.) who connected with a pass to sophomore Ibrahim Kamara (North Brunswick, N.J.). Kamara headed the ball past Brown goalkeeper Jarrod Schlenker to give Rutgers a 1-0 edge. It was Kamara’s team-leading fifth goal of the season, breaking a five game scoreless streak for Rutgers.

Brown shifted the momentum before the close of the first half when Nick Elenz-Martin found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the 37th minute. The Bears added the go-ahead goal in the second half, going up 2-1 in the 62nd minute and another tally in the 70th en route to a 3-1 victory.

Rutgers has dropped five-straight matches and will look to snap the streak when it returns to BIG EAST Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 17, hosting Cincinnati at 7p.m.
