PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Aug. 17, 2011) – Rutgers women’s soccer former standout Kim Brandão and the Western New York Flash won the 2011 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) regular season championship with a record of 13-2-3.

The captain for the Portugal National Team with 25 international caps, Brandão started two games for the Flash this season, tallying one assist.

This was Brandão’s first season with WPS. The defender was named to the Soccerbuzz All-America Third Team as a senior at Rutgers. Brandão was selected to NSCAA and Soccerbuzz all-regional squads during her junior season (2004). A captain in 2006, she was also named to the NSCAA All-Region First Team. During the 2006 season, Brandão anchored a Rutgers defense that allowed just 0.50 goal per game. On the offensive end, she scored two goals, including one in Rutgers' nationally-televised victory over Princeton.

During her final season "On the Banks," Brandão was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week, as well as earning BIG EAST Honor Roll honors, both for the period ending Oct. 16. Brandão closed out her career with three goals, including one game-winner.
