Providence, R.I. (Sept. 5, 2011) – Rutgers women’s soccer forward Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.
This is the first selection for the sophomore, who notched a seven-point week and has tallied a point in every game that RU has scored a goal.
On Monday, Filigno tallied the first hat trick in a decade against Fordham, scoring three goals in the second half to push the Scarlet Knights to a 4-1 win over the Rams. It was the first multi-goal game of her career.
Against RV/21 Loyola Marymount, the BIG EAST Preseason Team selection assisted on the first career score by freshman Amy Pietrangelo (Laval, Quebec, Canda) in a match RU would eventually win 2-1 in double overtime.
Filigno has already matched her goal output from a season ago, and leads the squad with nine points. Filigno and the rest of the Scarlet Knights host two Ivy League opponents this weekend, taking on Yale Friday at 7 p.m. and Dartmouth Sunday at 1 p.m.
