Guadalajara, Mexico (Oct. 13, 2011) – Rutgers women’s soccer center back Shannon Woeller (Vancouver, BC, Canada) travels to Guadalajara, Mexico with the Canadian National Team Wednesday in preparation for the 2011 Pan American Games. The ninth-ranked Canadian squad will take on Costa Rica, Argentina and Brazil in group-stage matches that will take place Oct. 18-28.
Last season, Woeller spend two weeks with the Canadian National Team in Rome in training for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The RU team captain – who has four caps on the international stage – will miss the final three games of the Scarlet Knights’ season after seeing 90-plus minutes of action in 14 of 15 matches this season.
Canada will face Costa Rica on Oct. 18, Argentina on Oct. 20, and Brazil on Oct. 22. The tournament's semi-final matches will be played on Oct. 25 and the championship final will be played on Oct. 27.
Forty-two (42) countries will participate in this year's Pan-Am Games. The games will help Canada prepare for the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which takes place in Vancouver, BC, Canada from Jan. 19-29 at BC Place Stadium and will provide two teams with tickets to the 2012 Olympics in London.
