PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 21, 2013) – Redshirt senior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada) received another preseason honor Thursday, when Soccer America named her a 2013 Preseason All-American. The honor marks one of many this preseason for the RU forward after she tied the school’s single-season record in goals (15) and notched 35 points last season.

“These honors are extremely gratifying for the entire program,” said head coach Glenn Crooks. “It’s a reflection of the program and it’s a reflection of Jonelle’s hard work, dedication and talent.”

Filigno was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award earlier this preseason, while also earning a No. 12 ranking in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Women’s Top 100. The organization also placed her in its Preseason Best XI Second Team for her play during the 2012 season.

Filigno tied the school’s single-season mark of 15 goals during her junior campaign, a record previously held by former standout and U.S. Women’s National Team star, Carli Lloyd. Her 35 points were good for third on the single-season list, while she broke the school record with seven game-winning goals. For her career, the forward is third in game-winning scores (12), fifth in goals (25) and sixth in points (60).

RU opens the 2013 season at Yurcak Field on Aug. 23 against Drexel. Season tickets are now on sale and are $50 for adults, $40 for children 12 & under and seniors 55 & older. All packages include a free t-shirt.  Season tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 732-907-1570.
