PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 2, 2013) – For the second consecutive week, the Rutgers women’s soccer team (4-0) placed two on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. Redshirt seniors Jonelle Filigno (Missassauga, Canada) and Jess Janosz (Ringwood, N.J.) were both selected to the honor roll after RU’s weekend sweep of Delaware and Fordham, as Filigno tallied five points (2g, 1a) and Janosz recorded two shutouts.
Filigno, a unanimous selection to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Team, recorded penalty kick goals in both the Scarlet Knights’ 1-0 victory against Delaware (8/30) and in their 3-0 victory over Fordham (9/1). The forward also recorded an assist in the win over Fordham. Both of Filigno’s goals were game-winners, giving her 14 for her RU career. She is now one game-winner away from tying Carli Lloyd (15) and Kris Kurzynowski (15) for first on the all-time list.
Janosz improved to 4-0 this season and 10-3 for her career after posting a pair of shutouts over the weekend. She currently rides a scoreless streak of 347:25 consecutive minutes to begin 2013, as she inches closer to former RU great Erin Guthrie’s record streak of 403:39 minutes to begin the 2009 season. The netminder has recorded eight saves and three shutouts overall this season.
Junior Sara Corson (Metuchen, N.J.) and freshman Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) were selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after the first weekend of the season, when Corson notched five points in 22 minutes against Army (8/25) and Tiernan tallied a three-point opening weekend.
The Scarlet Knights hit the road on Friday, Sept. 6 for one of their toughest games on the slate, as RU travels to take on No. 5/6 Virginia in its first match of the University of Virginia Tournament. The Cavaliers are 3-0 to start this season and take on Richmond later this afternoon.
