CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (September 9, 2013) – Three Rutgers women’s soccer athletes – redshirt seniors Tricia DiPaolo (Sparta, N.J.) and Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada) and freshman Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) were selected to the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team, Virginia athletic communications announced Sunday.
The Scarlet Knights (4-1-1) went a combined 0-1-1 on the weekend, ending on a high note after tying William and Mary (2-1-2) in their final match of the tournament.
DiPaolo tallied the assist – her first of the season – on a goal by senior Maria Gerew (Toms River, N.J.) to guide RU to its 1-1 tie against the Tribe.
Filigno led the Scarlet Knights with four shots in two games of the tournament, while Tiernan made her sixth-straight start to begin her Rutgers career.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action on Friday, Sept. 13, when they welcome Bryant (2-3) “To the Banks” for a 5:30 p.m. matchup. The match will precede the Rutgers men’s soccer team’s (1-2-1) 8 p.m. matchup with Princeton at Yurcak Field as part of the first Rutgers soccer doubleheader of the 2013 season.
