PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct 16, 2013) – TopDrawerSoccer.com selected freshman forward Madison Tiernan (Voorhees, N.J.) to its midseason Freshmen Women’s Top 100. The list identifies freshmen who have made significant impacts in their inaugural season of Division I soccer.
Through RU’s (11-2-1, 4-1 AAC) 14 games this season, Tiernan is third on the team with 13 points (5g, 3a), while leading the team with 41 shots.
Tiernan was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Sept. 16 after earning a spot on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll on Aug. 26.
The Voorhees, N.J., native became the first true freshman since 2007 (Rheanne Sleiman) to score a goal in her opening match, as 2006 saw three true freshmen - Karla Shacher, Alicia Hall and Kristine Lang – score in the first game of the year.
The Scarlet Knights will hit the road this weekend to take on No. 19/20 UCF (Oct. 18) and USF (Oct. 20) in a pair of pivotal American Athletic Conference matches. With 13 points, UCF (11-2-2, 4-0-1 AAC) is ahead of Rutgers by one point in the standings, while USF (7-4-3, 2-3 AAC) looks to get back on track after dropping a pair of road matches to Louisville and Cincinnati.
