PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct 17, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team heads to the Sunshine State this weekend to take on No. 21/18 (NSCAA Coaches/Soccer America) UCF on Friday, Oct. 17 and USF on Sunday Oct. 19. Kickoff for the matches are set for 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, as both will be broadcast live online.

The Scarlet Knights (11-2-1, 4-1 American) enter the weekend after improving their record at home this season to 9-0. RU blanked Houston, 1-0, to kickoff the weekend (Oct. 10) before defeating SMU, 1-0, at Yurcak Field on Sunday, 0ct. 13. Junior Stef Scholz (South Hackensack, N.J.) scored the game-winner against the Cougars, as sophomore Erica Skroski (Galloway, N.J.) notched her first career points on her game-winner against SMU.
With 11 wins this season, RU recorded double-digit victories for the 19th time in the program’s 30-year history.
Scouting No. 21/18 UCF
UCF (11-2-2, 4-0-1American) welcomes Rutgers to Orlando, Fla. as the lone American Athletic Conference team to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Knights settled for a 1-1 tie against Cincinnati on Oct. 11 before defeating top-ranked Louisville, 1-0, on the road (Oct. 13).
The Knights are unbeaten in their last 11 matches (9-0-2), scoring four goals or more five times in that span. Tatiana Coleman leads the squad with eight goals this season. That mark is good for a tie for fourth in the American.
Four other Knights have scored at least four goals this season – Lena Petermann (six), Kayla Adamek (five), Jennifer Martin (four) and Alex Piercy (four). UCF leads the conference with 36 goals scored this season. The Knights boast the 20th-ranked scoring offense in the nation.
The Knights have also controlled opposing offenses, allowing just nine goals this season – the fewest in the conference. Goalkeeper Lianne Maldonado leads the American with a 0.70 goals against average (GAA).
RU is 0-2 all-time against the Knights, losing its most recent meeting against UCF, 1-0, in Orlando, Fla., on Sept. 29, 1990.
The Bulls enter the weekend on a two-game losing streak after falling, 3-0, to Louisville (Oct. 11) and 3-2 to Cincinnati (Oct. 13). Sharla Passariello and Olivia Chance are tied for the team lead with five goals, three assists and 13 points this season.
Christiane Endler serves as the Bulls’ netminder, boasting a .794 save percentage and 1.03 GAA. USF has enjoyed success on its home field this season, owning a 7-0-2 clip. The Bulls are winless on the road this year with an 0-4-1 record.
The Scarlet Knights are unbeaten all-time against the Bulls, owning a 2-0-1 advantage in the series. RU won its latest meeting with USF, 1-0, last season at Yurcak Field.
