  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 11, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team has been selected to the 2013 NCAA Tournament, announced on the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship Selection Show Monday on NCAA.com.

The full bracket can be viewed here.

“We’re very excited to have been selected and privileged to be an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament,” said head coach Glenn Crooks. “We know West Virginia very well, a former BIG EAST member with us, so we’ve been to Morgantown several times. I’m very close friends with the staff at West Virginia so we’ll enjoy the trip and I really look forward to the preparation.”

The Scarlet Knights (13-4-4, 5-3-1) will take on No. 16 West Virginia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers enter the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big 12 Championship, defeating Oklahoma State, 1-0 on Sunday, Nov. 10.

WVU (16-3-2, 7-10), a long-time BIG EAST rival of Rutgers, has won 12 of its last 13 matches, earning the program’s fourth conference championship and third in four years.

Rutgers enters the tournament after falling, 8-7, in PKs to No. 17 UCF in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Finals. With the NCAA selection, the Scarlet Knights earned their third NCAA at-large bid in the past five seasons and second in a row after reaching the second round in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

RU is 4-11-1 all-time against West Virginia, with its last victory over the Mountaineers coming on Oct. 5, 2008 in the form of a 1-0 win.

The Scarlet Knights have reached the NCAA Tournament seven times in Crooks’ tenure.
