SOUTH BEND, Ind. (May 9, 2012) – Rutgers softball freshman Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, as announced by the conference office at the annual banquet on Wednesday. Landrith was joined by senior third baseman Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) and freshman outfielder Chandler Howard (Wilmington, Del.) as members of the All-BIG EAST Third Team.

Landrith becomes the first Rutgers player to earn Rookie of the Year since 1993 when Sharon Morris was honored with the award as part of the Atlantic 10.

Landrith led the pitching staff with an 18-11 record on the year, placing her second on RU’s single season win list. She recorded an 8-8 mark in league action and a 1.85 ERA during 102.0 innings.

The Vacaville, Calif., native recorded a pair of perfect games on the year, defeating Iona 1-0 to register the first flawless game for RU since 2000 when Andria Koehler threw a perfect game against Monmouth. She added a 9-0 five inning perfect game versus Lafayette in the final week of the regular season.

Landrith currently ranks 20th in the nation in shutouts with nine on the year, to go along with 23 complete games.

Lindley led the Scarlet Knights offensively in the 2012 campaign, hitting at a .336 clip, with a .597 slugging percentage and a .480 on-base percentage. She tallied team-highs in doubles (12), home runs (seven) and RBI (28). The senior ranks in the top-three in six offensive categories in RU’s career record book.

Howard led the team in batting average during conference action, hitting .317 in league games, with a team-best 11 RBI. The freshman recorded 20 hits during the BIG EAST slate, including three doubles and two home runs. The rookie also recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in conference play.

RU’s three players being named all-conference is the most for the Scarlet Knights since the 1999 campaign when four players received league honors.
