PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 8, 2013) – Sophomore lefthander Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) and sophomore outfielder Jackie Bates earned spots on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. Landrith went 3-1 in a 4-2 week for the Rutgers softball team, striking out 22 batters en route to a new RU single-season strikeout record. Bates hit three doubles while going 8-22 (.364) and recording six RBIs.
It was the first time either player was honored by the conference this season. Bates wraps up the year at the plate as the Scarlet Knights’ leader in doubles (13) and RBIs (35), and tied for the team lead with six homers. As a team, RU tied for third on the single-season list with 27 combined long balls.
Landrith, who went 17-15 in 2013, boasted a 0.85 ERA in the final week of the season, going 2-0 in the squad’s final nonconference action of the season before going 1-1 in a trio of appearances against Pittsburgh. She allowed just three earned runs in 24.2 innings of work for the week.
Her four strikeouts against Pitt in RU’s season finale gave her 192 strikeouts for the season, one more than the former mark of 191 held by Leah Black (2001).
Landrith and Bates join juniors Alexis Durando (Oakland, N.J.) and Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.), sophomore Chandler Howard (Wilmington, Del.) and senior Kaci Madden (Saratoga, N.Y.) as two of six Scarlet Knights to earn spots on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Williams earned the distinction twice this season, while the other four Scarlet Knights were honored once.
