Little Falls, N.J. (July 18, 2013) – Rutgers head softball coach Jay Nelson, currently at the helm of the National Pro Fastpitch NY/NJ Comets, leads the Comets into a home series against the USSSA Florida Pride, to be held at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, N.J. from July 19-21.
The Comets and Pride will play four games at Yogi Berra Stadium, on the campus of Montclair State University, with games two and four to be broadcast live on ESPN2.
The series begins tomorrow night at 7 p.m., with first pitch for game two scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Comets continue the series at 5 p.m. on Saturday, before closing out the four-game set on Sunday with another live ESPN2 broadcast at 3 p.m.
Former Rutgers standout Brittney Lindley (2009-12), who signed with the Comets in April, will compete under her former collegiate coach in front of a New Jersey crowd for only the third time this season.
Lindley was a star during her career “On the Banks,” setting the RU single-season home run record in 2010 and 2011 with 13 home runs. She is first all-time in school history with 34 homers.
She recorded a .342 career batting average and was a three-time member of National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Team.
Nelson is entering his eighth season as head coach of the Scarlet Knights and owns a 165-214 record. He guided RU to three consecutive BIG EAST Tournament appearances from 2010-12, the first time the program accomplished that feat as a member of the conference.
Nelson led RU to a 30-win season (30-26) in 2013 for only the fourth time in the program’s 38-year history.
