PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 9, 2013) – Nine members of the Rutgers softball were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-America (NFCA) Scholar Athletes, the organization announced Monday. With a 3.464 team GPA, the squad also posted the No. 12 GPA nationally.
“I know that our team will be pleased with reaching such a lofty ranking in the national academic poll for softball teams,” said head coach Jay Nelson. “No.12 out of nearly 300 teams is very good, placing us in the top 4 percent of all Division I softball teams. Our athletes have made academics a priority of the program and with the help of our academic advisor Kathleen Shank, and executive director Scott Walker they have reached such a distinguished level of academic excellence.”
