  • RALEIGH, NC - Andria Koehler fired a complete-game, three-hit shutout as the Rutgers softball team opened its 2003 season with a 2-0 win over Charleston Southern in the first round of the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC today.

Jennifer Jacoby (Agoura Hills, CA) broke a third-inning, 0-0 tie when she led off the inning with an infield single to short, the first of four-straight Scarlet Knight hits. Brittany Neer (Tallahassee, FL) and Courntey Love (Seabrook, TX) followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases, while Megan Antonucci (Warrington, PA) drove in Jacoby with the first run of the game. Neer scored an insurance run in the seventh on an infield error to cap the win.

Koehler earned the win, striking out five batters with no walks and no errors. She also benefitted from a strong defensive effort, using three perfect innings to keep Charleston Southern at bay. Jacoby was the lone repeat hitter for RU, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The Scarlet Knights will continue action in the Triangle Classic Saturday when they face the University of Dayton and a team to be determined based on bracket play. The weekend will conclude with a final game on Sunday against an opponent to be determined.
