PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 8, 2012) – The Rutgers diving team readies for the 2012 NCAA Zone A Championships at the University of Buffalo, March 9-11. RU will send four of its divers; Valentina Gordon (Metuchen, N.J.), Katie Kearney (Mahwah, N.J.), Nicole Honey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Nicole Scott (Toronto, ON, Canada).
The three-day meet will feature 47 women from 26 schools and 11 conferences. Competition will begin on Friday with the women’s one-meter preliminaries and finals. Saturday will feature the prelims and finals for the three-meter board, followed by the platform on Sunday.
The Scarlet Knights have had 25 days off since their last competition, the BIG EAST Championships, in which the divers placed third. In the one-meter event, Scott notched a sixth-place finish, tallying 251.80 points in the finals, while Kearney placed ninth (246.70) and Honey in 11th (237.65).
In three-meter action, Honey punched her ticket to the finals with a fifth-place showing in the preliminaries with 247.25 points. Honey came in eighth overall in the event. Scott added a ninth-place finish, while Gordon came in 13th.
Scott had her best finish of the week in the platform event, taking the bronze with 190.80 points in her five dives.
Gordon edged out teammate Honey, taking fifth place with 166.55 points. Honey recorded a score of 160.85 for sixth place.
