PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 7, 2013) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team will welcome a set of BIG EAST squads featuring the Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Villanova men’s and women’s teams on Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 at RU Aquatic Center. Friday’s action is slated to begin at 4 p.m., while Saturday will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a short ceremony to honor the accomplishments and dedication of three Rutgers seniors. Swimming and diving on Saturday is set to begin at 1 p.m.
“It will be great to have four Big East Schools competing this weekend in our home pool,” said head coach Phil Spiniello. “These are some very good teams and this will be a great way to help us prepare for the Big East Championship meet in three weeks.”
Rutgers currently sits at 7-1 on the season with the lone loss coming at the hands of James Madison, 165-135. In RU’s last time out, the Scarlet Knights defeated both Fordham (162-132) and Rider (219-75). The Scarlet Knights notched 11 top-spot scores, one from honored Scarlet Knight senior and team captain, Taylor Zafir (Wheaton, Ill.) in the 1000 freestyle.
Similarly, fellow senior captain Katie Kearney (Mahwah, N.J.) finished six dives in the one-meter event with a 271.20 mark, leading the way for a Scarlet Knight diving sweep.
The meet marks the end of regular season competition for the Scarlet Knights, who will head to Indianapolis, Ind., for the BIG EAST Championships Feb. 7 – Mar. 2.
