PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 25, 2013) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team captured a 181-119 victory over the visiting Wagner College Seahawks Friday evening at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center. RU won 12 of the 16 events on the day to continue its impressive start to the 2013-14 season.

“This was a solid start to our dual meet season,” said head coach Phil Spiniello. “We had some good swims but certainly have some work to do as we prepare to move forward in the season. Congrats to Nicole Scott on winning both diving events.”

Senior Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) was one of four Scarlet Knights to win two events in the meet. Scott claimed first place in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive with scores of 295.65 and 320.86, respectively.

Senior Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), junior Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.) and senior Mary Moser (Wyomissing, Pa.) would each finish first in two of their events as well.  Leberfinger claimed first in both the 100 breaststroke (1:04.99) and 200 breaststroke (2:20.07), Guinee won the 100 butterfly (58.45) and 200 butterfly (2:05.30) and Moser was the top finisher in both the 50 freestyle (24.14) and the 100 freestyle (52.11).

Additional first-place finishes were claimed by senior Allyson Perrotti (Branford, Conn.) in the 400 yard I.M. (4:35.81) and sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:02.55). Perrotti added second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events.

The Rutgers relay teams also fared well on the day, as the 200 yard medley relay team of Wu, Leberfinger, Guinee and Moser completed the event in 1:46.18 to claim first, while the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Sarah Coyne (Osceola, Ind.), Julia Kudryashova (New Providence, N.J.), Wu and Moser won with a mark of 1:38.67.

Sophomore Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.) turned in a solid performance on the day with two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly.

The Scarlet Knights return to the pool tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for the annual Alumni Meet.
