PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 22, 2013) – The Rutgers swimming and diving team concluded the first day of the Frank Elm Invitational in fourth place, after totaling 421 points Friday evening at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center. Sophomores Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) and Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.) each recorded first-place individual finishes to lead RU.
Several Scarlet Knights posted season-best times on the day, including Wu who won the 500 free in 4:55.16 and Pfaff who claimed the top spot in the 200 yard I.M. with a time of 2:04.69.
Senior swim captain Allyson Perrotti (Branford, Conn.) posted her own season-best time in the 200 I.M., in which she finished fourth after touching the wall at 2:07.18.
Mary Moser also notched a top-five finish in the 50 freestyle, finishing second at 23.92.
The relay teams picked up points for RU as well, as the 200 freestyle relay squad of Moser, Wu, Sophie Newton (Leesburg, Va.) and Sarah Coyne (Osceola, Ind.) captured third (1:36.64) and the 400 medley relay team of Wu, Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.), Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and Moser finished second at 3:49.32.
On the boards, senior diving captain Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) came second in the 3-meter with 296.20 points, while freshman Rebecca Gross (Manchester, Pa.) finished sixth in the event with a mark of 238.10.
The action resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the prelims of the 400 I.M. The first diving event of the day is the 1-meter at noon.
