  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 27, 2014) – Senior Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) of the Rutgers swimming and diving team has been named the school’s New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year.

The NJAIAW awards program allows every two-year and four-year college or university, as well as every high school, in New Jersey select a Woman of the Year from its school. The award recognizes the outstanding achievements of female collegiate athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, leadership and service.

Scott will be honored at a ceremony at Seton Hall University on Sunday Feb. 9, 2014.

“I am very happy and proud to hear that Nicole Scott has been named the Rutgers NJAIAW Woman of the Year,” said head diving coach Fred Woodruff. “When I read the criteria for the award, I was not surprised that she had received this honor. Nicole is a wonderful example of what a student-athlete should be. She is an outstanding student and a very accomplished diver who has demonstrated leadership in her academics, sport and service to others.”

In the middle of her final year “On the Banks,” the diving captain is the owner of two Rutgers records, each which she broke this season. Scott set the RU standard in the 3-meter during the squad’s quad meet against former BIG EAST rivals Georgetown, Seton Hall and Villanova in early November, and went on to reset her own school record in the platform dive at the Frank Elm Invitational on Nov. 23.

Last year, Scott garnered a gold medal finish in the platform dive at the BIG EAST Championships and also won silver in the same event at the Zone A Diving Championships. Her performance at Zones allowed her to gain an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s National Diving Championships. During her junior year, Scott earned bronze in the platform exhibition at the BIG EAST Champs and won silver in the platform at the 2012 Zone A Diving Championships.

A double-major in food science and nutritional sciences with a minor in biological sciences, Scott’s academic credentials are just as impressive as her athletic accomplishments. Through three years, she has maintained a 3.94 GPA, while earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in four semesters. Her additional academic honors include, being named to the Dean’s List and Athletic Director Honor Roll every semester, BIG EAST All-Academic accolades, membership to Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, and receiving the spring 2012 Academic Excellence Award.

Scott is also the team’s representative for the Student Athlete Activity Committee (SAAC) and has been involved with several community service projects including, a toy and book drive, volunteering at Elijah's Promise, a local food bank, and the Believe Bowl, a community event raising money for spinal cord research.
