  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 7, 2014) – Rutgers swimming and diving team members Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) and Rebecca Gross (Manchester, Pa.) will participate in the three-day Zone Diving Championships from March 10-12 in Blacksburg, Va.

Scott and Gross will both be competing in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events.

Fans can follow the action and find results here.

Through 21 seasons as head diving coach, Fred Woodruff has had a diver qualify for Zones each year under his mentorship.

Scott recently helped the Scarlet Knights achieve a third-place finish at the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships by earning a silver medal in the platform dive with a score of 268.55. The senior was also named the conference’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to being named Rutgers’ New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year.

The Toronto native owns two RU records in the platform and 3-meter, both which she broke this season. In the past two years, Scott has won silver in the platform event at Zones and also advanced to the NCAA Division I Women’s National Diving Championships last season.

Gross had an impressive showing in her first year “On the Banks.” The rookie achieved a personal-best score of  279.80 in the 1-meter dive at RU’s quad meet against Villanova, Georgetown and Seton Hall, while also notching season highs in the 3-meter (277.75) and platform (207.80) events at the Sonny Werblin Invite and Frank Elm Invite, respectively.

Divers will be selected for the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, based on their performances at Zones. Selected divers will be announced Sunday, March 16. The championships will be held March 20-22 at the Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

The NCAA announced on March 5 that sophomore Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) was selected to compete in the championships in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke events. Wu’s selection marks the first time since 2009 that RU has sent a swimmer to the tournament and the first under head coach Phil Spiniello.
