  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 6, 2014) – The American Athletic Conference announced the 2013-14 AAC Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards on Tuesday, naming senior Nicole Scott (Toronto, Canada) as the women’s swimming and diving recipient.

The award is given to one student-athlete in each American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible.

Having already been named AAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and CSCAA Individual Scholar All-America First Team, Scott adds yet another academic accolade to her final season “On the Banks.”

In addition to success in the classroom, the Canada native excelled in the pool, highlighted by her appearance at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Scott placed 16th in platform diving and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for her performance.

Rutgers as a whole achieved outstanding academic achievements last season, being named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team after posting a team GPA of 3.32. It marked the second-consecutive year the squad earned a spot on the list.

The Scarlet Knights also had four student-athletes notch individual academic honors, with senior Brittany Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), junior Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, N.J.), senior Allyson Perrotti (Branford, Conn.), and sophomore Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.) earning Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honors.

Along with strength in academics, the Scarlet Knights closed out the season with a solid third-place finish at the AAC Championships, breaking seven total school records at the event. RU will continue to use the momentum of last year’s campaign as the team transitions in to the Big Ten Conference.
