ITHACA, NY – The tandem of Alina Balasa (East Brunswick, NJ) and Lauren Edelstein (Medford Lakes, NJ) won the Flight B doubles consolation title for Rutgers at the season-opening Cornell Invitational. Balasa and Edelstein defeated Ashley Donahue and Lindsey Murasko-Blank, 8-1, in the final match.

ITA, the governing body of collegiate tennis, works closely with the NCAA on several issues dealing with tennis in all its divisions.

CORAL GABLES, FL – The fifth-seeded Rutgers women’s tennis team lost to fourth-seeded Virginia Tech, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championships Friday morning at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. The loss drops RU to 13-7 overall for the season and 9-3 in BIG EAST competition. The Scarlet Knights, who have been eliminated from title contention, will return to the courts on Saturday, April 26, to face sixth-seeded Syracuse in consolation action at 3 p.m.

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s tennis team earned the fifth seed in the 2003 BIG EAST Championships this Friday-Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Complex in Coral Gables, FL, the league office announced on Monday. The seed pairs the Scarlet Knights with fourth-seeded Virginia Tech on in the tournament’s opening match on Friday at 9 a.m. The winner receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, May 15-24 at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.

April-16-03 Rosenwasser to Retire as Head Women's Tennis Coach
PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers’ Marian Rosenwasser will retire as the Scarlet Knights’ head women’s tennis coach at the end of June, but will return as the program’s assistant, while current RU assistant coach Ben Bucca will take over head-coaching duties on July 1, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Robert E. Mulcahy III has announced.

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s tennis team ended its regular season on Sunday afternoon, recording a 7-0 victory, over Georgetown. The Scarlet Knights, playing on the outdoor courts of the Rutgers Tennis Complex for the first time this season, registered their third-straight shutout and seventh-straight overall victory, improving to 13-6 and 9-2 in BIG EAST play. The win also puts Rutgers in solid position to clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Championships, Friday-Sunday April 25-27 in Miami, FL.

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s tennis team earned its fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday afternoon inside the Busch Tennis Bubble in Piscataway, NJ, shutting out Seton Hall, 7-0. Rutgers won every match in both singles and doubles competition, improving to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in BIG EAST play.
