PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 29, 2013) – The Rutgers tennis team raised $18,500 dollars, the most it has ever raised, at its 26th Annual Tennis Party at the East Brunswick Racquet Club on Saturday, Jan. 26. The program would like to thank everyone who came out to support the team.

More than 80 people attended the event, which was highlighted by many activities including doubles play. The team raised money by donations, clothing sales and auctions. All of the money raised will go to the tennis team’s spring break trip to Florida from March 15-20, taking on California (Pa.) and Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauderdale before heading to Miami Shores to take on Barry University.

"Over the past 10 years the party has grown tremendously," said head coach Ben Bucca.  "The party's success is directly attributed to the support from the local tennis and business community.  So many people over the years have helped make this party a great night.  This year it was an evening of inspiration for me and the players on the team.  I would especially like to thank Saint Peter's Healthcare System for the leadership in sponsoring the event."

“This was the 10th year I have attended with my brother,” said Richard Wong. “Ben (Bucca) has cultivated a loyal following for the women's tennis team and the team has responded likewise by becoming superb student-athletes.  You can’t ask for more from the head coach.”

Another attendee, Alan Syzdek, a 1983 Rutgers graduate and a former member of the men's tennis team said, "Living in California with a busy schedule, I have not been able to attend any of the previous women's tennis teams’ parties. Fortunately, this year I was able to fly in and attend the event.  It was absolutely worth the trip. Good tennis, plenty of food, a bit of off-key singing and great fun! It was clear that the 2013 team will continue the Rutgers tennis tradition of generating scholar-athletes that will make the university proud."

Rutgers opens the season on Sunday, Feb. 3, at home against Delaware at noon at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J.
