PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 11, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s tennis team is set to take on Fairleigh Dickinson at home on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m., Princeton on the road Saturday, Feb. 16 at noon and Cincinnati at home on Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. The Scarlet Knights will play the FDU and Cincinnati at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J.
Rutgers and Princeton have joined together in hosting a Campus Kids Day for the match in Princeton, N.J., on Saturday, a USTA promotion on college campuses. The contest will be held at Jadwin Gym, Level E. Campus Kids Day is designed to expose junior players, their parents and coaches to college tennis.
Entry to the match is free and there will be free pizza and drinks for kids that attend. Both teams will provide giveaways and will autograph posters for the juniors after the match. There will also be specialized Princeton and Rutgers racquet stenciling.
The Scarlet Knights hold a 1-1 record in 2013 and are coming off a dominating 7-0 win over Lehigh. Rutgers won all six singles contests and all three doubles matches. Junior Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.), freshman Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) and classmate Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) all hold 2-0 records this season.
This will be the first match of the spring for Fairleigh Dickinson, who went 2-0 in fall competition, downing Monmouth (Sept. 27), 7-0, and Seton Hall, 4-3 (Oct. 16). First-year head coach Jonathan Buchman is at the helm.
The Tigers are 2-1, with 6-1 wins over Temple (Jan. 30) and Akron (Feb. 3). The only loss came at the hands of Missouri (Feb. 2), 4-3. Laura Granville is in her first season as head coach.
The Scarlet Knights open up BIG EAST play against the Bearcats, who are 1-4 so far in 2013. Their win came at Toledo, 4-3, on Feb. 9. Cincinnati will take on Connecticut in Storrs, Conn., on Feb. 15 before taking on Rutgers on Feb. 17. Fifth-year head coach Angela Wilson is at the helm.
