  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 9, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s tennis team is set for its last home match of the season, taking on BIG EAST and in-state rival Seton Hall at the RU Tennis Complex on Wednesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. The squad then travels to Georgetown to complete the regular season in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m.

The Scarlet Knights (11-7, 5-2 BIG EAST), led by 10th-year head coach Benjamin Bucca, are coming off a 1-1 week in which the team defeated St. John’s (April 4) 5-2, before falling to Syracuse (April 7), 6-1.

RU has been led this season by strong conference performances from freshman Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.). Li holds a team-best 13-5 record, including a 6-1 mark in league play. Kayati has compiled an 11-4 record in her rookie season, including a 5-2 tally in conference action. In doubles play, junior Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and Li look for their 10th win as a tandem in 2013.

The Pirates hold a 5-10 record (2-3 BIG EAST). The squad’s conference wins came over Villanova (April 5), 7-0, and Providence (March 24), 5-2. Most recently, Seton Hall fell to Connecticut, 5-2, on April 7. SHU is led by head coach Greg Wyzykowski. The Scarlet Knights downed the Pirates, 6-1, on April 12 of last season.

The Hoyas are 13-4 overall this season and have compiled a 3-2 BIG EAST record. Georgetown has won six-straight contests and is coming off a 4-3 victory at East Carolina on April 6. The team’s only conference losses came to St. John’s and USF. Georgetown is under the direction of head coach Gordie Ernst. Last season, Rutgers defeated Georgetown, 4-3, on Feb. 24.
