PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 19, 2013) – The Rutgers tennis team will participate in its first official competition of the 2013 fall season at the Brown Invitational this weekend. The three-day tournament will begin on Friday, Sept. 20 and last through Sunday, Sept. 21. The first match of the tournament is slated for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The teams participating in the event are Binghamton University, Boston College, Boston University, Brown University, Providence College, the University at Buffalo and the University of Massachusetts. The tournament will mark the first event of the year for all of the competing schools, with the exception of Providence and Binghamton, who opened the season at the Sacred Heart Doubles Invitational and the Cornell Fall Invite, respectively.
Boston College, Boston University and Brown concluded the 2012-2013 seasons as three of the strongest teams in the region. BC ranked third in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I Northeast Region Ranking, while BU and Brown came in at seventh and tenth, respectively.
Rutgers hosted the Highlanders of NJIT at the Rutgers Tennis Complex last Wednesday, Sept. 11. Scores were not kept and the exhibition was geared towards individual play, with singles and doubles matches taking place between the two squads.
