  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 25, 2013) – The Rutgers tennis team released its 2014 spring schedule Monday afternoon, head coach Benjamin Bucca announced. The slate features 19 total matches, seven of which will be home contests for the Scarlet Knights.

“We look forward to a very challenging schedule this year,” Bucca said. “Our schedule represents a nice balance between competing against regionally ranked teams and very demanding American Athletic Conference opponents. The schedule will challenge our athletes and prepare them well for the conference championships in April.”

Five of Rutgers’ opponents concluded the 2012-13 season ranked in the top-10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2012-13 Division I Regional Rankings. Princeton, Cornell and Penn finished fifth, sixth, and eighth, respectively, in the Northeast region, while Tulane and Southeastern Louisiana ranked fourth and eighth, respectively in the Southern region.

Bucca and Co. open the season on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Lehigh, before hosting the squad’s first home match of the year on Feb. 7 against Fairleigh Dickinson. RU will then hit the road for six-straight road contests, spanning from Feb. 9 through March 1. During that stretch, the Scarlet Knights will face Penn (Feb. 9), Army (Feb. 16), Princeton (Feb. 19), Louisville (Feb. 21), Cincinnati (Feb. 23) and Cornell (March 1).

Rutgers returns home for two nonconference matches against Binghamton and Delaware on March 7 and March 12, respectively before heading south for its annual spring break trip. The Scarlet Knights will travel to New Orleans on March 16 to face Louisiana schools Southern University, Southeastern Louisiana and Tulane.

RU will participate in its final two regular season road matches against local rivals UConn on April 3 and Seton Hall on April 8, before closing out the home slate against Villanova (April 11) and St. John’s (April 13).

The American Athletic Conference Championships are set to begin April 17 in Tampa, Fla.
