RU Men’s Track And Field Takes 10th At BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

    TAMPA, Fla. (May 6, 2010) – The Rutgers men’s track and field team scored 38 points, finishing 10th at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on Sunday, May 6 at the USF Track Stadium. Senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) and freshman Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) led the Scarlet Knights, placing third in their respective events.


    Bostick earned a third-place showing in the triple jump, recording a mark of 49’2.25” (14.99m), while Crawford was third in the long jump with a leap of 24’11.25” (7.60m). Bostick also tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6’6.25” (1.99m).

    Senior Tyrone Putman (Ft. Washington, Md.) tied for fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 48’ (14.63m), while Glenn Scheidler (Randolph, N.j.) tied Bostick in the high jump, also clearing a height of 6’6.25” (1.99m). Rounding out the field events was Pat Gray (East Winsor, N.J.) who finished in a tie for seventh with a mark of 14’9” (4.50m).

    On the track, Steve Werner (Newtown Sq., Pa.) was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.45. Senior Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 47.07, while Aaron Younger (Franklinville, N.J.) took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, running 53.22.

    Werner, Brown and Crawford joined Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a time of 3:10.14 en route to a fourth-place showing. Rutgers finished eighth in the 4x800-meter relay as Ben Forrest (Jackson, N.J.), Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.), Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) and Monroe Kearns (Jackson, N.J.) ran a time of 7:37.91.

    RU also earned points in the decathlon as Mike Fritz (Whippany, N.J.) and Mike Baird (Rockaway, N.J.) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Fritz scored 6,320 points, while Baird collected 6,166 points across the 10 events.

    The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Friday, May 11 for the 2012 IC4A Outdoor Championships in Princeton, N.J.
