PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 23, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Championship, held on the campus of North Florida from May 24-26. The Scarlet Knights qualified for four events each on the men’s and women’s side. 

2012 NCAA EAST PRELIMINARY ROUND - MEET CENTRAL

The top-12 performances in each event at the conclusion of competition on Saturday will advance to the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, from June 6-9.

Representing the men’s team will be senior Kevin Brown (Woodbury, N.J.) in the 400-meter dash, freshman Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) in the long jump, and seniors Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) and Tyrone Putman (Ft. Washington, Md.) in the triple jump.

Rutgers will also be represented in the 4x400-meter relay with Crawford and Brown joining Steve Werner (Newton Sq., Pa.) and Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) in the event. Rutgers advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 4x400-meter relay in 2010.

The RU women are led individually by sophomore Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) in the 100-meter dash and junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) in the long jump. The Scarlet Knights will also compete in a pair of relay events with Ruth and Gillon joining Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) and Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.) in both the 4x100-meteer and 4x400-meter relay.
