Rutgers Men’s Track & Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season At Bulls Invite
Monroe Kearns Wins 800m; Scarlet Knights Earn Three Second Place Finishes in Field Events

    TAMPA, Fla.  (March 15, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s track & field team kicked off the outdoor season on Friday at the Bulls Invitational hosted by USF.  The Scarlet Knights were led by senior Monroe Kearns (Jackson, N.J.) taking home the 800m title along with second place finishes in the javelin, high jump and discus events.

    In all, Rutgers racked up seven BIG EAST and IC4A qualification times and results in their first outdoor event of the 2013 campaign.

    Kearns led the Scarlet Knights in the track events with a first place time of 1:54.28 in the 800m.

    RU picked up three BIG EAST & IC4A qualification times in other track events.  In the 200m, freshman Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) raced to a fourth place finish in a time of 21.68 (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) followed by sophomore Kadeem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) in fifth logging a time of 21.72 (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier).  Douse also earned a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time clocking in at 10.70 in the 100m and taking sixth overall.

    In the relays, the 4x100 team of freshman Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.), sophomore D'Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Dunbar and redshirt junior Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.)  ran 41.90 for third place. Also the 4x400 squad placed placed in 3:16.60 with a group of Crawford, Jordan, Kearns and Dunbar.

    In the field events, Rutgers saw second place finishes by freshman Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) in the javelin at 60.91m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier), senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) in the discus at 58.03m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) and senior Adam Bergo (Planfield, N.J.) in high jump at 2.09m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier).  Bergo was .1m off the top height in the high jump.

    Also earning a BIG EAST & IC4A qualifying performance was senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) in the pole vault.  Wyckoff cleared a height of 4.90m to take fifth.  

    Additionally, redshirt sophomore Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) took fourth in the long jump at a distance of 6.84m.

    The Rutgers men’s outdoor track & field team returns to action at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Virginia March 29-30.
