RICHMOND, Va. (March 30, 2013) -- Rutgers senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) set a Robins Stadium facility record and meet record recording 60.72m in the discus to highlight the Scarlet Knights’ outdoor track & field teams results at this weekend’s Fred Hardy Invitational held by the University of Richmond. Plummer’s mark is currently second in the nation.
Plummer, the reigning BIG EAST Field Player of the Week, smashed the previous meet record of 50.17 set in 2007 and reset a new facility mark surpassing the previous distance of 58.64m set back in 1980.
The Scarlet Knights also had first place times with senior Monroe Kerns (Jackson, N.J.) posting a time of 1:53.12 to lead all enteries in the 800m, while sophomore C.J. DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) won the 3000m crossing the finish line in a time of 8:28.
Classmate Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) also captured a first place finish in the pole vault as the Scarlet Knights registered a pair of BIG EAST qualifying marks in the both the pole vault and high jump. Wyckoff cleared the bar with a height of 5.00m to top all competitors, while senior Pat Gray (East Windsor, N.J.) rose to a height of 4.55m for fifth place. In the high jump, freshman AJ Vance (Egg Harbor Twp,, N.J.) took third leaping to 2.01m, while senior Glen Scheideler (Randolph, N.J.) came in fifth at a distance of 1.98.
Senior Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) recorded a second place height of 15.33m for a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying mark in the triple jump. Additionally, senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) placed seventh clearing 14.14m.
RU also captured a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 110 high hurdles by freshman Alex Malveaux (East Brunswick, N.J.). Maleveaux took sixth place with his time of 15.34.
The Scarlet Knights also had five other top 10 placements in track events. Freshman Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) led the distance runners crossing the finish line in fourth in the 5000m with a time of 15:03.00. Redshirt sophomore Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) placed seventh in the 100m with his time of 11.08, while Kerns ran to a time of 49.83 in the 400m to take ninth place. Additionally, sophomore Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) came in ninth in the 1500m logging a time of 3:56.96 and freshman Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) placed seventh in the 400m hurdles racing to 55.93 finish time.
