WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 6, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s track and field team captured the 2013 Colonial Relay title on Saturday with the Scarlet Knights taking home three field event titles along with the top times in the 4x200 relay and 100m.
RU led the 31-team field collecting 133 points en route to the title. Bucknell finished in second (116 points), followed by Monmouth in third (77.5 points), Shippensburg in fourth (60 points), and Virginia Tech in fifth (59 points).
Sophomore Kadeem Douse (Ewing, N.J.) captured first place in the Saturday’s finals of the 100m. After taking second in Friday’s preliminaries, Douse raced to a top time of 10.80 (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) in the finals.
In the relays, the 4x200 squad of D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.), freshman Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.), freshman Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.), and redshirt sophomore Cory Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) captured first in a time of 1:26.13 The 4x100 team of Eze, Dunbar, Douse, and Crawford took fourth racing to a time of 42.25.
The Scarlet Knights had the top results in three of Saturday’s field events. Senior Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) cleared 5.15m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) to take home the pole vault title, senior Kevin Bostick (Englewood, N.J.) gave RU a first place finish in the triple jump at a distance of 15.24m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier), and two-time reigning BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) threw of a distance of 67.01m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) to take first in the discus.
Recapping Friday’s Results:
Senior Monroe Kerns (Jackson, N.J.), who last week captured first in the 800m at the Fred Hardy Invitational, improved his time by nearly three seconds to log a time of 1:49.80 (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier).
Dunbar meanwhile took the top time in the 400m by crossing the finish line in a time of 48.90 (BIG EAST Qualifier), while Jordan took eighth to add the Scarlet Knight point total in a time of 49.48.
RU also added to its point total thanks to finishes in the 200m, 400m hurdles, and 1500m. Crawford raced to a second place time in the 200m in 21.82 (BIG EAST Qualifier) and was followed by Douse in seventh with a time of 21.85 (BIG EAST Qualifier). Freshman Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) captured eighth place in the 400m hurdles racing to a time of 54.58 (BIG EAST Qualifier), while junior Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.) posted a fourth place time of 4:02.25 in the 1500m
Plummer took second in the shot put with a distance of 16.37m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) and freshman Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) recorded 61.66m (BIG EAST & IC4A Qualifier) in the javelin for second. Senior Glenn Scheideler (Randolph, Va.) led a trio of Scarlet Knights in the high jump. Scheideler took second at a height of 1.99m (BIG EAST Qualifier), with freshman AJ Vance (Egg Harbor Twp, N.J.) in third at 1.99m (BIG EAST Qualifier), and freshman Ryan North (Mayetta, N.J.) in fourth at 1.94m. Crawford, who took second in the 200m, also took second in the long jump at a distance of 7.26m (BIG EAST Qualifier).
The Rutgers men’s outdoor track & field team returns to action at the Spec Town Invitational in Athens, Georgia and the Metropolitan Championships on April 12-13.
