PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 3, 2013) – Senior James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) has been named the Mid-Atlantic Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year in a vote of the nation’s coaches it was announced on Monday by the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA).
The senior Scarlet Knight was the 2013 BIG EAST Championships’ Most Outstanding Field Performer and discus champion and most recently set the Rutgers school record in the event in qualifying for the NCAA Track & Field Championships at the NCAA East Regional. Plummer, one of 12 from the East Regional to qualify for the Division I national championship, reset the RU record at a distance of 61.27m (201’0”).
Plummer enters the NCAA Championships ranked fifth in the country in the discus. In addition to setting a new BIG EAST Championship record at 60.85m (199’8’), Plummer also captured the IC4A and Penn Relay titles for the third time in his career. He was also the top performer at the Georgia Spec Towns National Team Invitational and Fred Hardy Invitational, where he set a new meet and facility record. During the outdoor season, Plummer was named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week three times
Plummer will be competing at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in the discus in Eugene, Oregon on Friday at 4 p.m.
