PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 11, 2014) – Junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) claimed a pair of titles, including repeating as the 400m champion, to highlight Rutgers men’s track & field action at the Rutgers Invitational held at the Busch Bubble this weekend.
In all, the Scarlet Knights logged eight first place finishes and a total of eight IC4A qualifying standards.
Jordan won the 200m title in a time of 21.98, improving from last season’s third place finish, and crossed the finish line in 47.83 in 400m, improving on last year’s finish by 1.32 seconds, in taking first place for the second straight year. Jordan notched IC4A qualifying marks in both events.
Other individual titles on the track included freshman Brendan Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) in the 800m, clocking in at 1:59.99, and senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) in the 3000m racing to a time of 8:45.24.
RU also captured first place in 4x400 relay squad. Sophomore Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.), freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.), sophomore Calvin Knox (Oakland, N.J.) and senior Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) together collected a first place time of 3:21.58.
Rutgers brought home titles in three field events led by an IC4A qualifying mark of 14.63m in the triple jump by sophomore Emeka Eze (Sayreville, N.J.). Additionally, freshman Bryan Pearson (Mt. Bethel, Pa.) won the shot put with a distance of 14.98m, while freshman Nicholas Eckett (Jackson, N.J.) cleared 4.40m for first in the pole vault.
Also recording IC4A qualifying marks at the Rutgers Invitational were freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.) and sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) in the 400m. Griffith finished behind Jordan in the second place with at time of 48.30, followed by Dunbar in third in a time of 48.55.
Rutgers had a trio of IC4A marks in the 500m. Sophomore Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) placed second in 1:04.14, followed by a third place time of 1:04.64 by senior Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.) and a fourth place finish by sophomore Calvin Knox (Oakland, N.J.), with a time of 1:05.07. The Rutgers men’s indoor track & field team will return to action at the Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 17.
