Men's Indoor Track & Field Places Eight in Top Ten at Great Dane Invitational
Junior D’Andre Jordan Brings Home Two IC4A Qualifying Times

    BRONX, N.Y.  (January 18, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s indoor track & field team participated in the 12th annual Great Dane Invitational at the NYC Armory on Friday with the Scarlet Knights recording eight top ten placements and junior D’Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) bringing home two IC4A qualifying times.

    The Scarlet Knights placed ninth overall in the 15 team field with 26.33 points.  Connecticut repeated as Great Dane champions with 120.33 points followed by Buffalo in third with 111.5 points and host Albany in third with 91 points.

    Jordan, who captured the 400m title at last weekend’s Rutgers Invitational, led RU with a fifth place finish in the event and a IC4A qualifying time of 48.58. 

    The junior Scarlet Knight was also a part of the fourth place 4x400 relay team.  Jordan joined teammates senior Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.), sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.), and freshman Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.) in running to an IC4A qualifying time of 3:16.95.

    Other top ten times for the Scarlet Knights included sophomore Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) with a seventh place finish in the 500m (1:05.52), senior Karon Purcell (East Windsor, N.J.) taking sixth in the 800m (1:56.18) and senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) crossing the finish line in 10th in the 1000m (2:31.03).

    Rutgers placed three Scarlet Knights in the top ten in field events, including a pair by sophomore Ryan North (Mayetta, N.J.).   North reached a distance of 6.73m in the long jump for seventh place and cleared a height of 1.94m in the high jump to finish ninth. 

    Additionally, freshman Bryan Pearson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) took 10th in the shot put with a throw of 14.39m.

    The Rutgers men’s indoor track & field team returns to action in traveling to Boston, Mass. to participate in the Terrier Classic on Saturday, Jan. 25.
