Meet the New Men's Track Scarlet Knights

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J.  (July 30, 2014) –  The Rutgers men’s track & field team announced the additions of 14 student-athletes to the 2015 roster, including a freshman class that has captured six state championships and four top five finishers along with three Division I transfers. 

    "We are excited to welcome this class to Rutgers University. We believe in trying to cover all of the event areas in track and field, and this class does just that," said head men's cross country and track & field coach Mike Mulqueen. "They are a strong group who will help us transition into the Big 10 Conference."


    Dylan Altland – Kingsway N.J./Kingsway - (Jumps/Multi-Events)

    Personal Records:

    - Pole Vault: 15’6”

    - Long Jump: 21’11.5”

    - High Jump: 6’2”

    New Jersey Meet of Champions runner up in the Pole Vault … A very versatile athlete who qualified for the Meet of Champions in the Pole Vault, Long Jump and High Jump … Placed 10th at the New Balance National Championship in the decathlon … NJ Group IV Champion in the Pole Vault. 

    Jason Bryan – Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven - (Throws)

    Personal Records:

    - Shot Put: 62’9”

    - Discus: 165’8”           

    New Jersey State Champion in the Shot Put and ranked 23rd in the US … Improved over five feet in the shot put from his Junior to Senior year … Placed 8th in the Discus at NJ Meet of Champions … State Sectional Champion in both the Shot Put and the Discus … Won both the Shore Conference and Monmouth County Championships in the Shot Put and Discus. 

    Eamonn Dwyer – Bayonne, N.J./St Peters Prep - (Jumps)

    Personal Records:

    - High Jump: 6’8”

    Placed 5th at the New Jersey Meet of Champions as a junior … Top 5 ranked performance in the High Jump in 2014 … Won the State Sectional Championships, Hudson County Championships and Bishop Loughlin Games. 

    Zach Ghizzone – Union, N.J./ Catholic/Oklahoma - (Hurdle/Jumps/Multi-Events)

    Personal Records:

    - 55H: 7.51

    - 110H: 14.43

    - 400IH: 54.08

    - Long Jump: 22’8”

    Member of national record and champion indoor hurdle relay as well as the state record outdoor hurdle relay ... New Jersey State Champion in the 55m Hurdles and 4x400m … A talented multi-event athlete who finished 2013 ranked in the top of New Jersey in the 55H, 110H, 400IH, Long Jump and Pole Vault.


    Jordan Jimerson – Edison, N.J./Union Catholic - (Sprints)

    Personal Records:

    - 400m: 47.60

    - 200m: 21.77

    - 100m: 10.78

    - 55M: 6.49

    Finished his career as one of the most versatile sprinters in New Jersey … Finished with Top 10 rankings in the 55m, 100m, 200m, 300m and 400m … In 2013, competed for Team USA in the 400m at the IAAFF World Youth Championships … Was a member of Union Catholics New Balance National Championship teams in the 4x400m, 4x200m, Sprint Medley and Swedish Relays … During his career, he won Non Public A State Championships in the 55m, 100m, 200m and 400m.

    Tyrell Judson – Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway/Bethune Cookman - (Jumps) 

    Personal Records:

    - Triple Jump: 48’3”

    - Long Jump: 22’4”

    Finished 2013 as the #3 ranked Triple Jumper and #12 ranked Long Jumper in New Jersey … Placed 4th at the New Jersey Meet of Champions in the Triple Jump and 7th in the Long Jump …   Won the NJ State Sectional Championships in both the Triple Jump and Long Jump.   

    Chris Mirabelli – Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross - (Throws)

    Personal Records:

    - Javelin: 216’6”

    One of the greatest Javelin throwers in South Jersey history … Finished 2014 with the 4th best throw in the US … Won the 2013 NJ Meet of Champions and finished 2nd in 2014 …  Placed in the top 4 at both the New Balance National Championship and the World Youth Trials. 

    Morgan Murray – Princeton, N.J./South Brunswick - (Middle Distance)

    Personal Records:

    - 800m: 1:50.62

    - 1600m: 4:18.57           

    In only his second year competing in track and field, became the 13th ranked 800m runner in the US and top 3 in NJ … Won the NJ Group IV championships in the 800m while placing 6th in the 1600m … Was voted the 2014 Indoor County Athlete of the Year. 


    Stuart Tweedie  -  Severna Park, Md./Westtown School -  (Sprints)

    Personal Records:

    - Indoor 200m: 21.78

    - 400m: 48.87

    Won the Pennsylvania Indoor State Championship in the 200m in his first season ever … During the outdoor season, became the 13th ranked 400m runner in the state in only his first race ever in the event. 

    Joe Velez – Providence, R.I./Classical/Ohio State

    Personal Records:

    - Weight Toss: 63’4”

    - Hammer Toss: 204’3”

    High School National Champion in the Hammer throw and ranked #2 in the country in the Weight Throw … During two years at Ohio State, was a two-time time NCAA Regional Qualifier and Big Ten Place Winner.

    The Rutgers men’s track and field program begins its first season in the Big Ten in 2015.

    Last indoor season, the Scarlet Knights had the national runner-up in the long jump and captured six top eight performances at the American Indoor Championships, including the long jump champion and runner-up in the 400m. RU finished last outdoor season ranked ninth in the final U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll and earned a total of five medals, including event champions in the long jump and javelin, and 11 additional top eight performances at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.  Rutgers also sent seven Scarlet Knights to the NCAA East Regional and had a seventh place finisher at NCAA’s in the long jump.
