Rutgers Shows Strong at Princeton Relays

  • PRINCETON, NJ -- The Rutgers men’s indoor track and field team competed at the Princeton Relays, a non-team scoring meet, in Jadwin Gym on Saturday, Jan. 25.

    Ryan Westman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.23. Chris Perez (Ridgewood, NJ) took fifth (1:59.64), Harran Williams (Delran, NJ) placed eighth with a time of 1:59.86 and Tim Paule (Matawan, NJ) placed 12th with a time of 2:01.54. David Klics (Lincoln Park, NJ) won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.13 and anchored the 4x50 meter shuttle hurdle team of Chris Stadler (Manasquan, NJ), Kevin Campbell (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Greg Ostrowicki (Howell, NJ) to a first-place time of 30.91.

    Rutgers had a sweep of the first three places in high jump. Anthony Butler (Pittsgrove, NJ) had a jump of 2.16m for first, Lonnie Washington (Elizabeth, NJ) placed second with a mark of 2.03m and Ostrowicki finished third with the same mark.

    Lloyd Nolan (Bronx, NY) won the pole vault with a mark of 4.70m and David Jackson (Pennington, NJ) placed eighth in the same event (4.15m).

    Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) captured first in the long jump with a jump of 7.35m, while Klics placed sixth (6.50m), Kevin Chan (Wilton, NJ) placed seventh (6.44m) and Stadler placed 14th (5.97m).

    Luis Tomlinson (Willingboro, NJ) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.00, while Anthony Gallo (Wall, NJ) placed fifth in the same event with a time of 49.20.

    Joe Pellegrino (Morganville, NJ) finished the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:06.90 to place seventh, while Ambar Patel (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) placed ninth (9:12.50) and Mike DeSimone (South Plainfield, NJ) placed 17th. The 4x400 meter relay team of Westman, Klics, Williams and Tomlinson placed sixth with a time of 3:23.16.

    Matt Lunemann (Hillsborough, NJ) finished the one-mile run with a time of 4:28.03 to place seventh and Pete Mathe (Franklin Park, NJ) placed 13th (4:43.39). Jackson placed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 12.40m.

    Three members of the Rutgers women’s track team also competed in the Princeton Relays. Claire Inskeep (Sayreville, NJ) took first in both of the events she competed in, shot put (13.28m) and the 20-pound weight throw (16.03m).

    Sophia Anderson (Brooklyn, NY) took second in the shot put with a throw of 13.04m and Candice Schultz (Beachwood, NJ) had a mark of 12.23m for seventh place. Schultz also placed fifth in the weight throw (14.39m).

    The men’s and women’s teams will travel to Bronx, NY, to compete in the Metropolitan Championships on Saturday, Feb. 1.
