PRINCETON, N.J. – The Rutgers men’s track and field team participated in the Princeton Quad Meet on Saturday, April 11. Rounding out the competition was Penn and Villanova in addition to Rutgers and Princeton. The Scarlet Knights won a pair of events and posted a total of six performances with top-three finishes.
On the track, senior Kyle Grady (East Brunswick, N.J.) won the 110 meter hurdles. He achieved a BIG EAST qualifying time of 14.54. Following Grady was sophomore Akeem Adiatu (Willingboro, N.J.) placing fifth with a time of 15.44, while freshman Mike Baird (Rockaway, N.J.) finished seventh with a time of 15.89.
Another RU senior, Brian Sutherland (Edison, N.J.) achieved a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 400 meter hurdles, placing second with a time of 54.32.
The 4x400-meter relay squad consisting of freshman Ellis Mensah (West Orange, N.J.), junior Bruce Owens (Wenonah, N.J.), freshman Monroe Kearns (Jackson, N.J.), and Sutherland collectively ran a time of 3:20.99 to finish third overall.
In the field events, senior Brandon Burkhardt (Dallas, Pa.) won the javelin throwing 61.00 meters, a BIG EAST qualifying standard. Burkhardt was followed by teammate Chris Bradley (Nutley, N.J.) as he placed second. The sophomore also achieved a BIG EAST standard throwing 55.51 meters.
Closing the meet was freshman Adam Bergo (Plainfield, N.J.) in the high jump as he earned a BIG EAST standard in the event placing second overall. The reining BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer in the event cleared a height of 2.04 meters.
Rutgers will return to Princeton on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18 to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational.
