PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 26, 2012) – Rutgers women’s track and field held a clinic at the Girl Scouts Council of New Jersey’s 100th anniversary celebration at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on Saturday, June 23. The “Believe in Girls Celebration” drew thousands of scouts and their families to the park.
"We had the opportunity to celebrate a great organization in the Girl Scouts of America,” said head women’s track and field coach James Robinson. “It's important to recognize the achievements and programs the Girl Scouts of America provides towards the advancement of young women in our society. Our student-athletes were pleased to interact with the young ladies in attendance.
“Asha and Ekene jumped at the opportunity to participate and they had a blast with the kids. The celebration comes at a time when we're also recognizing a milestone anniversary of Title IX in NCAA athletics, so to observe monumental legislation and a monumental organization promoting positive initiatives for woman seem to go hand in hand."
Seniors Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) and Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) joined Robinson at the event which featured over 100 activities on the scenic park grounds, culminating with a concert and fireworks show.
