PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 29, 2012) – Former Rutgers women’s cross country and track &field standout Julie Culley won the 5,000-meter run at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., advancing to the 2012 London Games.
Culley, running for Asics/NYAC posted a time of 15:13.77 to pace the field in Thursday’s final at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. She will represent Team USA for the second time in her career after qualifying for the World Track and Field Championships in August, 2009 in Berlin, Germany.
Culley, who also holds a school record (outdoor 5,000), was an NCAA qualifier in cross country while at Rutgers. In 2004, she was the recipient of the New Jersey's NCAA Woman of the Year Award, given to female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics and community service.
