GENEVA, Ohio. (February 16, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s indoor track & field team currently sits in seventh place after day one at the 2013 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships being held at the SPIRE Institute this weekend.
Connecticut leads the standings after the first day of competition followed by South Florida and Notre Dame.
Redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) took second in the long jump. On her final jump of the championships, Ruth reached a distance of 5.95m, .02m away from first place. South Florida’s Monique Williams took the title with her jump of 5.97m.
Adding to the Scarlet Knights point total was junior Kristen Bradley (Medford, N.J.) in the pentathlon. Bradley took eighth overall recording 3,332 points.
Junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.) will compete in Sunday’s 60m finals after taking fourth overall in the preliminaries. Gillon raced to an ECAC qualifying time of 7.50 seconds to advance.
Also advancing to the finals were senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) in the 400m and sophomore Christina Dibernardo (Woodbury, N.Y.) in the 500m. Ugobaja clocked in a seventh place time to cross the finish line in a time of 55.88 (ECAC Qualifier). Dibernardo placed eight in the preliminaries registering a time of 1:14.93 (ECAC Qualifier).
