BOSTON, Mass. (March 3, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s indoor track and field team took eighth place at the 2013 ECAC Championships being held at Boston University this weekend as the 4x400 relay team set a new school record and captured the 18th best time among all Division I competitors.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of sophomore Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), senior Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.), junior Tylia Gillon (New Egypt, N.J.), and redshirt junior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) set the new Scarlet Knight benchmark in a time of 3:36.64 to take third overall.
Ruth also competed in two other final events on Sunday. She finished seventh in the long jump at a distance of 5.69m and claimed eighth in the 400m with her time of 55.52. Ugboaja also joined Ruth in the finals of the long jump finishing right behind her teammate in eighth position at a distance of 5.63m.
Gillon was the runner-up in the 60m dash. Gillon, last year’s champion in the event, took second in crossing the finish line in a time of 7.47, her fastest time this season
Farquharson was also featured in another finals event. She logged a fifth place performance in the 200m in a time of 24.28.
Also earning points for the Scarlet Knights was the distance medley relay team. Comprised of sophomore Felicia O'Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.), junior Corryn Hurrington (Bowie, Md.), senior Victoria Pontecorvo (Staten Island, N.Y.), and junior Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.), the team finished in seventh place recording a time of 11:44.11.
