BRONX, N.Y. (March 1, 2014) – Redshirt senior Asha Ruth (Bowie, Md.) captured silver as the runner-up in the 400m to highlight Rutgers women’s indoor track and field action on the second and final day of the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory.
Rutgers finished ninth overall at the championships. SMU captured the 2014 American title.
Ruth, who captured the long jump title on Friday, clocked in a 53.75 for second place in the 400m, a personal best for the Scarlet Knight.
Teammate Ekene Ugboaja (Edison, N.J.) was also in the 400m finals and finished in a time of 55.13, her best time of the season and an ECAC qualifying mark.
Also capturing ECAC qualifying marks in Saturday action were freshman Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.) in the triple jump and the Scarlet Knights’ 4x400 team. Grant reached a distance of 11.95m in her first conference championships. The 4x400 relay team meanwhile posted a time of 3:42.35.
The Rutgers women’s indoor track and field team returns to action at the ECAC Championships on Friday, March 7 in Boston, Mass.
