PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 2, 2013) – Rutgers volleyball freshman Micaela Anderson (La Cañada, Calif.) and sophomore Ali Schroeter (Bakersfield, Calif.) were named to the Indiana Invitational All-Tournament team after helping lead the Scarlet Knights to a 2-1 mark over the weekend.
In her collegiate debut, Anderson tied for the team-high in kills with 10, to help lead Rutgers to a straight-set victory over Kent State in the season opener. In the second day of play, the outside led all RU offensive players with 28 total kills against both Indiana and Robert Morris. 22 of her kills came against Robert Morris alone to guide RU to a 3-1 win over the Colonials. Anderson finished the contest with a torrid .391 hitting percentage and added 10 digs for the first double-double of her young career.
For the weekend, Anderson averaged 3.80 kills per set and had a .244 hitting percentage.
Schroeter paced a strong defensive effort by Rutgers over the weekend, leading the squad with 44 digs to average 4.40 per set. The second-year player managed double-digit digs in each match and came away with a 20-dig performance against Robert Morris.
Rutgers returns to action at the Syracuse Candlewood Suites Invitational next weekend. The Scarlet Knights will be pitted against Oakland, Syracuse, Colorado and Stony Brook in the two-day tournament starting on Friday, Sept. 6. RU begins tournament play on Friday against Oakland at 11 a.m. in the Women’s Building.
