PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 25, 2013) – Rutgers volleyball freshman outsider hitter Micaela Anderson (La Cañada, Calif.) was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The award marks the first honor of the season for the Scarlet Knights.
Anderson led Rutgers to its first conference win of the year by recording a team-high 17 kills against Temple and added her second-straight team-leading double-digit kill performance against Memphis with 15 kills on a .323 hitting percentage. Anderson averaged 4.0 kills per set on the week, along with five digs and three total blocks.
The California native is third on the squad in kills for the season, having totaled 131 putdowns through 30 matches. Anderson managed double-digit digs on six occasions this season, with half occurring in the last four games alone.
Anderson was named to the Indiana Invitational All-Tournament team on Aug. 31 after leading the Scarlet Knights to a 2-1 mark to open the season by averaging 3.80 kills per set with a .244 hitting percentage over the three games.
Rutgers wraps up the 2013 season on the road, facing Cincinnati on Wed. Nov. 27 before playing its final match of the year at Louisville on Fri. Nov. 29.
