PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 22, 2014) -- Rutgers volleyball has completed its 2014 roster with three final additions, head coach C.J. Werneke announced Tuesday. Transfers Eden Frazier (Irvine, Calif.), Lauren Howard-Chavez (Long Beach, Calif.) and Lea Williams (Plainsboro, N.J.) will join the Scarlet Knights, adding depth to the position at middle.
“Overall, we are really excited about the three [additional] newcomers,” said Werneke. “They are all bringing in college experience, college level training, depth in positions, a ton of athleticism and different personalities. All three are great additions and we are really expecting some major contributions from them.”

Irvine, Calif. | Woodbridge HS | Utah
Frazier transfers from the University of Utah after two seasons with the Utes. Prior to college, Frazier was a three-year letterwinner at Woodbridge High School (Irvine, Calif.). The California native earned all-conference and most valuable player accolades in her senior year. Frazier competed with the T-Street club team that captured first place at the Spokane J.O. qualifying tournament.
Werneke on Fraizer – “We have high expectations for Eden. Having been trained in the Pac-12 and having played against the Pac-12 for two years we are really looking forward to seeing how that translates to our program and the Big Ten. She is a true middle and will give us some depth at that position.”

Long Beach, Calif. | Wilson HS | Miami (Fla.)
Howard-Chavez transfers after redshirting for one season at the University of Miami. As a three-year varsity letterwinner at Wilson High School, she earned First Team Harry J. Moore League All-League honors in her senior season. She finished first in the Moore League as a junior with 98 blocks, 41 solo blocks and 109 kills. Howard-Chavez competed with Mizuno Long Beach club for four years, achieving the title of Regional Champions, in addition to finishing within the top five at the Junior Olympics.
Werneke on Howard-Chavez – “Lauren gives us some options both in the middle, but primarily as a right side. She really fits our system well with what we try to do offensively with our right sides. We are looking forward to seeing how that translates here.”

Plainsboro, N.J. | West Windsor-Plainsboro HS South | VCU
Williams joins the Scarlet Knights from Virginia Commonwealth University. The New Jersey native was a four-year letterwinner at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, where she served as captain her senior year. Williams played with the Atlantic Valley Volleyball Club, competing on the national level squad from 2008-2010. After transferring from VCU, Williams joins the varsity squad following two years with the Rutgers Volleyball Club team.
Werneke on Williams – “Lea also adds depth to a key position. In the middle, she is very, very athletic. Being away from the collegiate level for a couple years now she will need some training to get back into a collegiate routine, but her athleticism will hopefully make up for the lack of experience.”
Frazier, Howard-Chavez and Williams join freshmen Talia Holze (Wheaton, Ill.) and Madison “Meme” Fletcher (Overland Park, Kan.), who signed during the early signing period. The roster now boasts five newcomers, in addition to 11 returning players.
